The Rooms

Sir John Leigh

The Sir John Leigh bedroom, faces East over the main lawn. Sir John, deputy Governor of the Island, built the house in 1615. The spacious room has a large bay window. The bathroom has an extra large roll top bath with separate walk in shower. A bathroom for the romantic.

One night £55, 2-3 £50 4+ nights £47.50   – Based on 2 sharing.

Mary Gordon

Mary Gordon’s room also faces east. It is a smaller, but comfortable, sunny room. It has a newly refurbished bathroom with bath and shower above. Mary Gordon was Algernon Swinburne’s cousin and his sweetheart and lived at Northcourt for 70 years, marrying General Disney Leith. (Later Lord Burgh)

One night £47.50 – £45.00   4+ nights £45.00  Based on 2 sharing.

Richard Bull

The Richard Bull room is named after the gentleman who brought new wealth to Northcourt in 1790 and modernised the house and estate greatly. He even added a closet under the stairs in this room, which still acts as an extra small bathroom with bath, not so easy for the less agile!-but there is now a separate shower. Sunny room, facing south overlooking the parterre, with the best garden aspect.

One night £47.50 – £45.00   4+ nights £45.00  Based on 2 sharing.

Self Catering

Northcourt Manor provides quality, homely accommodation within two self-contained or interlinked properties, as a unique location for a relaxing break, catching up with friends and family, or as a base from which to enjoy the wonders of the Isle of Wight. Dating back to the 17th century, the manor has been extensively refurbished and modernised during the last decade and is complemented by quality furnishings, whilst retaining original period features. For special occasions, both houses or ‘wings’ are interlinked and can be rented together, along with the east wing comfortably accommodating 40+ people.

Northcourt House (north wing of manor) and Little Northcourt (west wing) each provide self-catering accommodation for up to 19 or 14 adults or over 36 people if rented together.

Location

NorthCourt is situated on the south-west side of the Isle of Wight on the edge of the small quiet picturesque rural village of Shorwell. It is an ancient parish with well preserved historical heritage and is graced by a twelfth century church, St Peters.

When approaching from Newport, the drive is at the bottom of a steep hill on right as you enter the village; or if approaching from  Brighstone, after passing the Shorwell village shop, the drive is accessed on a bend on the left. The postcode PO30 3JG can be used on sat navs to find us – although be warned, as it has been known to take visitors through a ford in Carisbrooke!

The Crown Inn is where most guests eat in the evening. It is just a five minute walk through the garden. There are also many other places to eat within a 20 minute drive.

The house nestles below the Downs, two and a half miles from the sea in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is an ideal location for walking and cycling holidays. One can walk or cycle up onto the Downs from the house, or follow the Shepherds trail to the sea.
