A week of events and celebration 1-7 October 2016
Age Friendly Island is delighted to coordinate the Celebrating Age Festival with numerous generous partners committed to celebrating older island residents and bringing our communities together.
There will be a number of events taking place across the Island at the beginning of October.
Event: Celebrating Age Awards
Venue: Lakeside Spa Hotel
Cost: Invite only
Description: The annual Celebrating Age Awards have been created to celebrate the contribution of older people to life on the Isle of Wight. Many older adults give time and effort to making the Isle of Wight a fantastic place to live. We want to celebrate those who are active in their communities, who see age as no barrier to create, accomplish or campaign. Nominations for the awards will open on August 11th and close on September 22nd. The winner and nominees of each category will be on the website and the Isle of Wight County Press.

Description: Singing Group, Your chance to join our friendly Independent Arts singing group.
Event: Beach, Bugs and Bones
Venue: Brown’s Café & Golf Course, Culver Parade, Sandown PO36 8QA Nearest bus stop: Dinosaur Isle/Isle of Wight Zoo. Parking available at Brown’s and Dinosaur Isle car parks.
Time: 10am – 1pm
Description: Beach, Bugs and Bones Join Arc and friends for a fascinating morning exploring the beach, bugs, birds and bones that fill the amazing Sandown Bay! Indoors, outdoors, or just over a cup of tea, up-close and through binoculars… there’ll be all sorts of ways to explore nature past, present and future… beach foray, bug-hoovering, moth-spotting, bird-watching, nature tables and fossil finds… Don’t miss it! Event: Open House at Riverside
Venue: Riverside Centre, Newport
Time: 10.00 – 16.00
Description: See the display from groups that use the Riverside Centre 10.00 – 12.00 followed by a drop in for carers 1.30 – 16.00. Pop in and meet the Community Action IW Team and Health Watch. Active Living will provide Information on activities at Riverside for older people with disabilities. The Footprint Trust will tell you about the grant-funded boiler scheme, free insulation of homes and free home energy visits. Staff from Newport Parish Council will be available to discuss issues of concern for older people. Find out about volunteering opportunities and Optio car scheme.
