There are some spooky shenanigans going on at Monkey Haven this half term. We’ll be getting into the spirit of Halloween for the entire week and open every day from 10am. Boys and ghouls will be able to enjoy phantom face painting, a trick or treat spider trail, batgirl’s badge making, and hold a real, live, slithering snake. “They’re actually soft and rather cuddly!” says Keeper Lisa Simpkins.
At the Keeper Talks, you can watch the rescue monkeys delve for treats in the pumpkins. And meet a lookalike for Hedwig, Harry Potter’s magic owl. Keeper Lisa says: “Owls are associated with Halloween but they’re not scary at all – one of our raptors cried when we put a mouse in his enclosure, and wouldn’t stop until it was taken away!”
The brilliant Isle of Wight Bat Hospital will be at the Haven from 11am, giving talks at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm. Don’t miss this great opportunity to find out about these amazing little animals – and you’ll even get the chance to meet a few rescued bats.
On Friday, our primate rescue centre will also be celebrating Bog the Siamang’s 14th birthday – we hope visitors will join us for cake and watch the birthday boy open his pressies. Find out more here!
