Just outside of Cowes on the Isle of Wight you will find the pretty coastal village of Gurnard, the village has some spectacular Solent views and is great place to watch the many sailing events that take place on the Island during the year. Along the front is a eclectic mix of chalets, bungalows, wooden huts and stunning sea facing house and come the evening from here you can take in some of the finest sunsets in the UK.
The beach at Gurnard is pebble and shingle and front is lined with pretty beach huts and the beach currently holds a Seaside Award, at the eastern point of the beach is the Gurnard sailing club and sailing and water sports are a popular past time in this area.
There are a few small shops in Gurnard as well as two pubs both of which serve food and offer a selection of drinks including Island ale, The Woodvale is located right at the seafront and serves food all day. Also located on the front is a sloping green and kids play area located near a small cafe serving snacks and ice cream.
Gurnard has some great boutique bed and breakfasts a large hotel called the New Holmwood which can be found between the Village and the main town of Cowes as well as some great self catering accommodation offering views out to sea and a peaceful relaxing environment.
There are some great walks and cycle routes to be explored in the area and for those wanting a little more life in the evening Cowes town is but a short walk away.
