Keats Cottage Bed and Breakfast, Shanklin, Isle of Wight

Boutique B&B & Restaurant

Keats Cottage Bed and Breakfast, Shanklin, Isle of WightLocated at the top of Shanklin Old Village, Keats Cottage is a boutique b&b & restaurant offering a unique poetry and well-being experience.

The house was named after John Keats, an English Romantic poet who stayed at the then-named Eglatine Cottage in the summer of 1819 and wrote some of his poems at this very property. His poetry, as well as Blake’s, Shelley’s, Byron’s and Tennyson’s after whom further rooms are named, is readily available at Keats Cottage.

Steeped in history and with parts of the building over 400 years old, Keats Cottage has been lovingly refurbished. All the rooms are equipped with modern amenities and we offer crisp linen, fluffy towels and luxurious toiletries. We believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and you can enjoy a traditional English breakfast consisting of organic ingredients sourced from nearby farms as well as home-made bread & jams, delicious omelettes, creamy porridge or vitamin-packed fruit smoothies to name just a few options!

David and Ewa having fallen in love with this old world charm and the generosity of the Islanders decided to make Keats Cottage their home and open it up to families and history enthusiasts alike. We now look forward to welcoming you and showing you the magic of the place and to offering you an unforgettable and relaxing holiday on the Isle of Wight. For those of you from further afield, we are happy to converse in English, German & Polish.

David and Ewa having bought the bed and breakfast, have endeavoured to keep its historical charm whilst renovating the property to a high standard. We have five en-suite rooms, three on the 1st floor and two on the 2nd floor.

Keats Kitchen

Keats Kitchen which is inspired by the poet John Keats is a unique place offering not only lovely homemade food but also a place to come and relax over coffee, read literature or just enjoy a glass of local wine with friends. As Keats was a keen traveller, we have decided to take on board our knowledge of Polish and Swiss cuisines, in addition to more traditional fayre in our menus.

David and Ewa believe in the little things which make people happy. Having worked for quality restauranteurs such as Sir Terrence Conran and Paul Heathcote and have broadened their horizons by working in Switzerland, the emphasis is on exceptional food and service in a home from home experience. We use the beautiful produce that is to be found on the Island and make a number of cakes, chutneys, pies and rolls which can be taken away.

It is for this reason that we have devised a menu with homemade ingredients, local produce and comfort style cooking in mind. We can offer a hearty breakfast or leisurely lunch or a decadent afternoon tea. For those wanting to try something different, we also intend to offer Swiss style rosti and Polish ravioli (pierogi) to name just a few options. The restaurant will also feature themed evenings and events and we will be welcoming some well-known chefs and other guests (please click NEWS for more details).  Among the other attractions, we will have selected days for “Kids at Keats” as well as welcoming cyclists, artists, walkers and other groups as we hope to create an informal environment for everyone.
