Steephill Cove, Ventnor, Isle of Wight

Steephill Cove is a real hidden treasure of the Isle of Wight.  Situated just further along the coast from Ventnor, it is not visible from the road.  Indeed, no cars have access to the cove and it can only be reached on foot or by boat.

Hidden between the rocky cliffs, Steephill has a safe sandy beach and a quiet tranquil feel, as if time has stood still for decades.  Families love clambering over the rocks searching the rock pools and discovering so much.  It is also popular with many locals and couples that just to sit there at one of the cafes and relax with a freshly prepared and caught crab sandwich – something the cove is noted for.

The Blake & Wheeler families have lived in the cove for generations and send boats out to catch Ventnor Bay Crab.

A great place to unwind and take in the stunning scenery while the kids enjoy hunting the rock pools and swimming in the clear waters.

Brightly coloured beach huts and old fisherman’s cottages, with lobster pots, deck chairs and fishing tackle are dotted around the cove and add to feel of a time gone by. You will find a little café at the southernmost tip of the cove and a restaurant, both of which serve locally caught seafood and the Isle of Wight produce during the season.

As there is no road access to the cove and beach walking is a must and the hill leading down is very steep (hence the name) so care must be taken going down. For parking up a car park can be found at the Ventnor botanical gardens nearby.
