The Wight in Sandown offers all the facilities and service you would expect from a hotel. A great reputation for outstanding food using locally produced food where possible.
With an indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and Solarium as well as an impressive in house Spa offering a range of treatments to help you relax and unwind on your holiday.
All 41 bedrooms (each already fitted with flat screen freeview TV with DVD, hairdryer, hospitality tray and digital safe) have now been refurnished, re-carpeted, redecorated and fitted with “blackout” curtains. During the 10/11 Winter all public areas of the hotel (Dining Room, Bar, Lounges, Stairs and Corridors) were also re-carpeted and a good start made on giving the “front of house” a major modernising facelift. During Winter 11/12 works to the remaining areas of the Dining Room and the “entertainment” end of the Bar were concluded and dimmable LED lighting installed. Tower fans have now been added to our already well equipped bedrooms and free Wifi is available, not only in all public areas but also in the vast majority of bedrooms.
Advantage Wight! Everything you need for your Isle of Wight (IOW) Holiday
We do not have sea views. Instead we are set in secluded grounds of 2 acres – thus avoiding night-time noise from the High Street and Esplanade. Yet the Wight is but 2 minutes very gentle stroll from the Sea and Sandown beach, possibly another minute to the shops. And come rain or shine The Wight’s many in-house amenities will guarantee the enjoyment and success of your holiday!
Unlike many IOW guest houses we have sufficient free car parking for every guest – plus a decent sized heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, solarium, a small “keep fit” room, games room, dedicated snooker room, sun terrace and – offering all the benefits and style but without the normally associated high cost – our Oasis Spa for massage, facials, waxing. nails etc..
Add a large and pleasant bar with dance floor and entertainment on several nights each week during the season. Enhance with what is probably the best and biggest breakfast menu you have ever experienced. Couple with a 5 course (plus tea or coffee) dinner menu which offers choices for each course. Season with efficient but friendly management and staff. Then quite simply you have found the right IOW guest house – it’s The Wight!
Our ‘Best of British’ IOW restaurant
Our Restaurant Manageress Wendy Fowler, who has been with the hotel for 10 years, will welcome you to our spacious restaurant which has comfortable seating for 110 diners. It opens for Breakfast at 8.15am (last orders by 9.45am) – Breakfast Menu at The Wight
The Bar at The Wight
Our bar is open all day and is for the exclusive use of hotel clients and those taking meals in our restaurant, thus avoiding the overcrowding and at times rowdy behavior that often occurs in bars which are open to the general public. Alec Merrick, our very popular Bar Manager for the past 8 years, and his wife Jill ensure that it is stocked to suit most tastes and features an adequate selection of luxury brand whiskies, cognacs, armagnacs etc..
All Round Entertainment
The bar itself divides the room into two distinct sections: one end has seating for around 25 for those who prefer a quiet chat whilst the larger section, seating around 70, has an ample dance area with live entertainment on several evenings each week during our lengthy season.
Children, provided that they are accompanied by their parents, are allowed in (but please, not at) the bar – but on the clear expectation that their parents will restrain them from running around and spoiling for other guests the enjoyment of what is, by nature and tradition, an adult environment. We have a saying: “We don’t mind children – but we do mind parents who don’t mind their children!”
All of our 41 bedrooms have been re-furnished, re-carpeted, re-decorated, fitted with ”blackout” curtains and new lighting. They vary in style and size from single right through to family suites – some of which are suitable for up to 6. Additionally we also have some superior rooms and even “Four Poster” and Honeymoon suites. But, whatever your requirement or choice, every room has it’s own ensuite facilities, colour TV (flat screen, freeview with DVD and radio) hospitality tray, hairdryer, digital safe and a tower fan. Cleanliness and attention to detail are under the watchful eye of our Housekeeper, Looge McDonald, who trained at the Park Lane Hotel, London and who has been with us for 25 years. N.B. – All bedrooms, indeed the whole hotel and rear grounds, are strictly “No Smoking”.
Leisure & Pleasure in the Isle of Wight
So far you have been housed, fed and watered. But now the Wight Montrene really starts to excel! Hopefully the weather will be good and the beaches, town or many places of interest on the Island may beckon. But alternatively you may prefer a lazy day on our large and attractive sun terrace.
Whatever the weather, your IOW holiday has something for everyone…
But of course, although the Island has better weather than most mainland destinations, this is still Britain and yes, it does occasionally rain! For such occasions (and even for the depths of Winter) our own Indoor Leisure Complex can be relied upon to make your stay a success whatever the weather – indeed some of our guests hardly venture out even when the sun shines!
The OASIS @ the WIGHT is open to both residents and those who live in the locality.
Our experienced therapists offer a very full range to both female and male clients
Spacious heated indoor pool
The Wight’s heated indoor pool has a raised children’s section. Open 7-30am – 8.30pm in summer but closes at 7.00pm in the winter months. It is used by Aquarius Divers for several 2 to 3 hour private sessions per week, during which hotel guests are very welcome to spectate. Guests (and children of 8 years and over) can also get involved – either with a pool “Try Dive” or even one of the many courses! IMPORTANT – Please note that we do not suppy towels for the pool or other leisure activities – please remember to bring your own
Open for the same hours as the pool, always very warm and relaxing. For full turbulation there is a coin in the slot meter.

Again, no children allowed without one of their own parents.
If the weather is not too kind you can always perk up your tan with a little intellegent use of our 48 tube Luxura Delta 500 upright tanning booth – which even has an elevator so that your feet get brown! Tokens and goggles are available from Reception – obviously no children are allowed.
Is open from 7.30am until 10.00pm and features a pool table, table football and table tennis
The Wight has a beautiful full-sized dedicated snooker room which guests may use on payment of £5.00 for 4 light-box tokens (about 80 minutes). Children are not normally allowed but consideration will be given to those over 12 years of age who will be playng with a parent
We also have a small trimnasium for use of those guests who feel the need of cardio-vascular exercise (or in order to combat the effects of the Wight’s Jurracic Breakfasts!)
