Wootton is a pretty village located between Ryde and Newport on the Isle of Wight and close to the main Wightlink ferry terminal of Fishbourne. The village is set amid some beautiful countryside and running through it centre is the creek popular with boaters and yachtsman.
There are a number of walks within and around the village including the Heritage trail and the area is popular with ramblers. Close by is the woodland area of Firestone copse which is rich with Island wildlife including our famous Red Squirrels, open to the public the area is great for picnics from here there are views across the Millpond . The pond formed by a sluice gate in the eponymous bridge is home to Herons, Kingfishers and Ergets and is part on a conservation area.
A mixture of modern and Victorian buildings the village as a few pubs that serve food as well as some charmng cafes and shops and is close to some popular Isle of Wight attractions such as the IOW Steam Railway, Quarr Abbey and Osborne House. There are two churches in the village the St. Edmund’s Parish Church which is medieval in origin and the St. Mark’s Church in the south end of the village where the Bishop of Southampton James Macarthur laid the foundation stone
There are also a number of lovely bed and breakfast and self catering accommodations to be found in the village, as well as a popular caravan and camping site.
