The Island’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is just a short distance away by car, bus or bicycle. A wide range of water sports and sailing activities are available close by. English Heritage’s Carisbrooke Castle and Osbourne House are a short distance away, as is Brading Roman Villa, The Steam Railway, Dinosaur Gothic Cottage is an outstanding Grade-II listed house (dating back to 1844) situated within easy walking distance of Ryde’s beautiful sandy beach and other amenities, its bars and restaurants, and transport links to/from the mainland and around the island. Recently fully renovated and refurbished by an interior designer, it showcases fantastic contemporary design blended effortlessly with the house’s period features.
Gothic Cottage offers flexible accommodation and is extremely well appointed for the old and young alike. Its spacious rooms over the highest level of comfort, whilst a host of extra features make it a fun place to stay. The games room has a pool table, darts, a bar and a quirky original 1970s jukebox along with a motorised glitter ball. The cinema and gaming room offers large screen (65”) viewing (with Sky Q, Netflix, Amazon Prime, BluRay etc), surround sound and a games console with a range of games. There is an extensive collection of baby toys and children’s games, as well as board games. Outside, the garden features a wooden shire pod/den (heated) with entertainment (TV, BluRay and Amazon Fire) – a great hangout for children – and a fabulous cedar barrel hot tub which seats 8 people.
The private contemporary-styled garden has multiple sitting out and dining areas. It has two BBQs (gas and charcoal), a wood-fired pizza oven and a charcoal smoker – perfect for outdoor entertaining. After dark, make use of the beautiful lighting and retreat to the raised seating area with its enormous sofa where you can sit toasting marshmallows over the firepit.
For convenience, the kitchen is extremely well appointed with a large Smeg range (7 gas hob burners, 2 electric ovens and separate grill), two dishwashers, microwave, Nespresso machine and Kenwood food mixer. If you are travelling with little ones, the house is fully kitted out – there are two high chairs, two travel cots (Its a Baby Dan travel cot that is 60 x 120 cm. It also has a separate John Lewis mattress as well as the supplied one), a steriliser, bottle warmer, food processor, stair gates, fire guards and foam door stoppers for your use, as well as a large array of games and toys.
Gothic Cottage is minutes’ walk from Ryde’s beautiful and extensive sandy beach and seafront with its indoor/outdoor swimming pool, fun fair, mini golf, trampolines, bowling alley, deli cafe and sheltered boating lake with bird life, pedaloes and a splash area for small children. It is also within easy walking distance of the High Street/Union Street with a range of shops (independents and supermarkets), bars and restaurants.
Getting to Gothic Cottage is very easy. By car, the Portsmouth to Fishbourne ferry is around 10 minutes’ drive from the house. By foot from Portsmouth, the hovercraft lands 5-10 minutes’ walk from the house or the catamaran docks at the end of the pier – a 15-20 minute walk or short taxi ride.
