JULIA TANNER ART
ISLE OF WIGHT INSPIRATION IN MAY The last month has mostly been about Bluebells and Art and Craft shows on the mainland. Events included the magnificent Penshurst Place in Kent and most recently The Stansted Park Garden Show in Hampshire with Petersfield and Highclere Castle in between and as always, Isle of Wight Artwork proved to be extremely popular. During May I spent a lot of time at Mottistone Woods photographing and filming the Bluebells for a Vlog on YouTube which you can watch here. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them looking so wonderful and they inspired several new paintings. I’ve also enjoyed several walks on Headon Warren which overlooks The Needles gathering images of the cows of Warren Farm which I’d like to include in future landscapes. During June I shall be having a break from shows in order to paint new pieces, I’m going to party at The Isle of Wight Festival and am also looking forward to The Round the Island Race. If you’re interested in seeing more of my art, please visit my website here For those of you coming for a holiday, I hope you […]

Luxury Places To Wine and Dine – Mrs. E’s Luxuries
What I love most about going for something to eat or drink on the Isle of Wight is that anywhere you go they serve local produce to an excellent quality. The Isle of Wight have a feel within their restaurants and cafes that differ from your average place to have a meal. Here are my personal favourite places to enjoy food, drink, and atmosphere on the Island: The Coast Bar & Restaurant – Cowes I have two absolute favourite places to dine on the Island, and one of those places is at the top of the high end high street in Cowes, The Coast Bar & Restaurant. With shabby chic interiors and a mix of relaxed coffee drinkers by the fire and diners at Kilner jar candle lit tables, it has a wonderful atmosphere that gives a sense of quality. The menu includes delicious starters, mains, platters, and desserts, and their pizzas are made fresh and cooked in a stone pizza oven (just how pizzas should be cooked!). The Boat House – Seaview The Boat House ties with The Coast Bar as being my favourite places to dine, purely down to the fact that I love both places for their […]

An Artists Inspiration on The Isle of Wight
An Artists Inspiration on The Isle of Wight Hello there, I’m Julia Tanner and I’m a Mixed Media Artist. My Husband and I moved here 2 years ago from Essex. We’d been coming to The Island for holidays for years and fell in love with the spectacular landscape and the friendly people, every time we had to go home it was such a wrench! My art has changed considerably since moving here, everywhere I look I see a painting and when we go to Art and Craft shows our customers are always interested in what inspires my work. In order to share the spectacular scenery, I decided to start a Vlog on YouTube to show you how the landscape influences my art. Each film will feature a different subject – such as seascapes, woodlands, bluebells – and I’m also filming in my studio and sharing tips and techniques. You can view my films here I’m delighted to have been asked to also write some blogs for ‘IsleofWight.com’ and am looking forward to sharing some of my paintings and inspirational photography with you, I’ll be adding more as the months go by. If anyone is considering a holiday or a move here I cannot recommend the Island […]
Announcement: Blog Collaboration – Mrs. E’s Luxuries
This is a very exciting moment! Hello everyone, my name is Louise, also known as Mrs. E’s Luxuries; a blogger and instagrammer from the mainland, sharing the luxuries I find through lifestyle, home, wining & dining, weddings, and of course the Isle of Wight. I would like to thank Kevin, the top man of isleofwight.com, for this opportunity to collaborate together in bringing you all the very best the Island has to offer from a luxury point of view. My love for the Island started before I could even remember; my father’s side of the family come from Newport, where his mother (my beloved Nana) met my Grandfather whilst he was over from Wales to build the Princess Flying Boat in the 1950s. They married at Carisbrooke before moving to the Mainland, yet would return regularly with their own family. I too met my Husband (Mr. E) on the Island in 2009 and we spend many a Summer (even Winter!) escaping to what we call our “Favourite Place”, doing what we do best and now I cannot wait to share with you what we get up to. You can keep up to date with what I get up to by […]

Formed by die-hard Oasis fans back in 2006, the five-piece band has toured extensively and with over 600 performances to date has justifiably earned its reputation as the leader of the pack. Speaking of the signing, organiser’s said; “2019 marks 10 years since Oasis’ explosive breakup and the well-reported feud between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher makes a reunion highly unlikely. Instead of longing for a return, we should cherish the past. The launch of Jack Up The Summer’s 90’s day on Sunday 11th August enables us to do just that! Oasis’ relevance in the 1990’s ensured their legacy for a lifetime and with obsessive attention to detail Noasis recreate the real Oasis experience with amazing energy. Performing songs from every one of Oasis’ six albums, the band deliver each one with pure precision; you genuinely will be fooled into thinking you are watching the real thing!” Frequently described as the nation’s favourite Oasis tribute band, Noasis performed live […]

Jack Up the Summer 2019
Jack Up the Summer 2019 Jack Up The 80s is renowned for being one big Summer party and that’s the true essence of what people love about it. Now there’s fabulous news for party-goers as this hugely popular event is broadening its appeal to allow for a richer variety of music. Returning now as ‘Jack Up The Summer’ in its traditional slot this August, this much-loved family friendly throwback festival will continue to celebrate the upbeat, hand-clapping music of yesteryear, centred around party hits and feel-good music from the 80s and 90s. Organisers said; “We’re now into our seventh year and with so many UK festivals having latterly fallen by the wayside it’s essential we allow the event to evolve naturally, but without losing any of the fun-loving charisma which embodies the Jack Up brand and makes it unique. We want to be able to bring audiences a wider variety of acts however it goes without saying we still absolutely love the 80s and the 80s spirit will always be at the heart of Jack Up The Summer. In fact, the 2019 edition of the event guarantees 100% 80s chart acts on one of the two days. Saturday 10 August […]
Jack-Up the Summer with Nick Heyward
HAIRCUT 100 FRONT MAN NICK HEYWARD TO HEADLINE LINE-UP OF ICONIC 80s HITMAKERS See Nick and others One of the hottest and most popular artists from the 80s and frontman of teen-pop sensations Haircut 100, Nick Heyward will be jetting in from his home in Florida to headline 80s Day at this August’s Jack Up The Summer festival. Riding the post-new romantic funk wave, when Haircut 100 burst youthfully onto the scene in 1981, the pop world was primed for their innovative, funky and uplifting sound. Loved by every teenage girl in the land, this wholesome group of chaps tucked their Aran jumpers into their trousers and innovatively blended Chic with the Monkees. In the early 80s Haircut 100 had four UK Top 10 hit singles; ‘Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)’, ‘Love Plus One’, ‘Nobody’s Fool’, and ‘Fantastic Day’. The band burnt briefly and brightly. They were the ultimate group of pals who, within a year, had hit the big time. As fully fledged pop stars they were splashed all over 1980’s press, TV and radio every day. The band released their Platinum-certified debut album ‘Pelican West’ in 1982, which zoomed to number two in the UK album chart, and […]

A Walk Between the Folly and Island Harbour
A Walk Between the Folly and Island Harbour Sunday 7th October. What a cracking day we woke up to this morning after such a terrible day weather wise the day before. We got up and had breakfast and decided to make the most of the day by going on one of our favourite walks between The Folly Inn at Whippingham and Island Harbour. The walk is not a long one, ideal for a lazy stroll before a Sunday roast, with great views and lots of wildlife and birds. We parked up at The Folly Inn and the footpath is accessed at the southern end of the car park, just next to the dingy compound. Right from the start there are mature Oak trees and then open countryside on the east side of your walk and beautiful views of the River Medina on the west. At the time of our walk it was high tide, so thankfully, Luke the dog would not get covered in mud which he so enjoys doing. The walk is level, with pretty little bridges crossing the inlets of the river and there are places to just sit down on the grass and take time to relax. […]

Rachel said “ The Orchards outdoor pool is very special to us because we had our first kiss there.” Jonathan and Rachel kept in touch and both families holidayed together several times. From 2013 onwards Jonathan and Rachel camped on their own at The orchards. When they returned on 1st August this year, Rachel had no idea that Jonathan had gone to such great lengths to set the scene for a perfect wedding proposal. He organised a pianist, soloist, flowers and for Island photographer Jason Swain to take these lovely photographs. With surprised guests looking on Jonathan went down on one knee by the side of the pool. A very delighted Rachel said yes! We are so pleased for both […]

Archimedes Super Yacht Visits East Cowes
Well, last night (19th August) Mrs isleofwight.com and junior decided to go looking for Pokemon around the metropolis known as East Cowes – a past time that I am less than enthusiastic about, preferring to catch-up on the weeks soaps from the comfort of my sofa. About an hour and a half later they returned really excited because they had been standing along side the Super Yacht “Archimedes” that was moored up at East Cowes along side the new Red Funnel car park. They were able to see the chefs busy in the kitchen and had a superb view of the comings and goings of the staff and were stunned to see such a big yacht so close up. We have all seen “Archimedes” lurking in the Solent before, but this was a real oportunity to see it close at hand. What they saw is in the gallery below. Besides from the pictures they took in the gallery above, we have found information relating to the yacht which may well be of interest to people that have seen this magnificent vessel before. “Archimedes” is owned by Hedge Fund Boss James Simmonds, an American who founded Renaissance Tech in 1982 and is said […]

Spotlight: Dinosaur Farm Brighstone
Spotlight: Dinosaur Farm Brighstone Did you know… There is so much more to Lower Sutton Farm which is probably best known as ‘Dinosaur Farm’ than these incredible giants of history. Of course with their onsite museum, Dinosaur enthusiasts will be hard pushed to find a more intriguing place to stay as the very ground upon which they will walk upon is the land where at least 30% of a brachiosaurus dinosaur, the most complete of its type in Western Europe, was found on the farm in 1992. The farm was the Head Quarters for ‘Live from Dinosaur Island’ and many of the scenes were filmed here, most of the glorious panoramic views were from the cliff at the farm and surrounding area. Fantastic Fossil Hunts In 2013 former staff of the Dinosaur Farm Museum, set-up Dinosaur Expeditions C.I.C., a Community Interest Company, to help the local community and visitors to the Island learn more about our unique fossil heritage and locally produced Palaeoart. The Dinosaur Expeditions, Conservation and Palaeoart Centre have displays of dinosaur fossils, palaeoart, children’s activities and a fossil gift shop. Walk in the giant footprints of Dino’s as organised fossil hunting trips throughout the year at a […]
Isle of Wight Festival: The old and the new
Isle of Wight Festival – The old and the new Whether you love or hate the Isle of Wight Festival the old and the new, the excitement is already reaching fever pitch for this year’s extra special 50th Anniversary event and the countdown clock is on. Its global success now hails this incredible event a festival force to be well and truly reckoned with and it has once again firmly highlighted our tiny yet perfectly formed Island on the world map, in the brightest stage lighting possible for all to see. Where did it all start? Way back in 1968 Ron, Ray and Bill Foulk (brothers) of Fiery Creations Limited sowed the original seed for the start of what would be an incredible three year run of festivals which at that time were considered counterculture events. But to many Island residents, even the idea of a music festival was nothing short of appalling and the rumours alone sent tidal waves of objections throughout the Island. Some residents, especially the well-to-do retirees who had come here to seek out peace and tranquillity in their later years, and also the ‘grotty yachties’ as the sailing fraternity have long since been known were […]

Snowy Saturday….just! My first eager peek out of the window this morning to check for more snow, I have to admit left me slightly heavy hearted. So much has melted away now revealing the previously well-hidden rooftops and roads… way too much normality is returning! Kev has headed out to his appointments with extra zest, almost ridiculously glad to be relieved of his ‘one-day inside caused cabin fever’ it is strange isn’t it, there is such a difference when we feel that choice is removed from our daily lives. It appears that Kev isn’t the only one suffering, our crazy-fool-puppy-dog, Luke is very hyped up too and of course, as Dad prepared to leave, Luke’s hopes of escapism reached fever pitch. His little face when his pesky human Dad dared to leave the house without him fair old tugged at my heartstrings, so a nice long walk is scheduled for this afternoon. I often think how different the world we live in would be if we applied more ‘dog logic’ to our outlook on life, and agree whole-heartedly with the wonderful super vet Professor Noel Fitzpatrick. The love we feel for our pets is incredibly special, but, after two decades working with […]
What a day on the Isle of WHITE!
What a day on the Isle of WHITE! What a wonderfully exciting day for so many and what a difference a little bit of snow makes to everything! Just when I thought our glorious Island couldn’t get any prettier it has! I don’t know about you, I haven’t ventured out today (yet) but it has been delightful to see so many children (and grown-up children too) thoroughly enjoying themselves in the snow. I don’t think I have ever seen such powdery snow before, quite tricky to roll into snowballs but a great ‘showering-explosion of a finale’ if you take the time! Even at 50 years of age, the ‘big kid’ in me kept eagerly peaking out of our office window to see if it was snowing again and if not, just how much had melted away. Glad to report that we have had a little more and not much has gone (YAY). I suspect more rosy-cheek little ones (and not so little ones too) will enjoy more snowy-antics tomorrow and wonder just how much, if any, sleep will be had tonight! Thank goodness it is the weekend so no threat of having to miss out on more ‘snowy fun’ because school is […]
Island Riding Centre, Newport, Isle of Wight To sum up what the Island Riding Centre has to offer can be used with the statement “OH WOW”. Not only is this the most fantastic riding facility on the Island but arguably one of the best in the South of England. Located between Newport and Wootton, the position amongst rolling countryside, with glimpses of the sea is amazing and this coupled with the fact that you can rent one of their superb holiday accommodations on site, in The Gallops, means that you can have the most perfect equestrian holidays. You can even bring your own horse too. The Island Riding Centre equestrian centre opened in July 2017 on the Isle of Wight. We are a fully insured, council-licensed equestrian centre based on the Isle of Wight (a couple of miles off the southern coast of England), and are members of the Association of British Riding Schools. The Isle of Wight has a strong tradition in horse riding but when the much loved Brickfields Horse Country closed its doors in 2013 it marked the end of an era having been the premier Isle of Wight horse riding centre for over 30 years.
