We are so excited that the Old Gaffers Festival in Yarmouth is back for 2017 and it looks to be better than ever!
Friday 2nd June until Sunday 4th June 2017 starts at 12:00 noon
Back for another fun filled weekend of entertainment and interesting things to see and do for the whole family. The harbour will be filled with the colourful spectacle of the visiting gaff rigged vessels, some of which will race in The Solent on Saturday. There is also a Sunday morning race from the Royal Solent Yacht Club with the Queen’s Jubilee Race.
Celebrating our 20th year, the theme will be: All Things Maritime! and our chosen charity is the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
As ever we welcome visitors and islanders alike to come and watch the magnificent Gaff Rigged boats racing in the Solent and brilliantly dressed in the Harbour.
There is a huge amount going on in Yarmouth during the Festival.
Many of the shore based activities are free, including: Street Entertainers from Covent Garden; Marching Bands; Morris Dancers with Strolling Musicians and Bands on every corner. See the News page for the latest details of our shore-based attractions.
You can enjoy browsing the Market Stalls selling wares and produce from round the world, Farmers’ Market and Many Local Crafts. Don’t forget to visit the New Pavillion on the green. There is a Funfair for the Children and Displays for all including the Veteran & Vintage Vehicles in the Big Boys Toys field and the RNLI Lifeboat with search & rescue helicopter display and open day.
On Friday and Saturday evening there are some spectacular bands for dancing in our Famous Marquee and Character Inns Bar on the Quay.Tickets will cost £10.00.
Where to Watch the Sailing.
Watching the Old Gaffers race is a wonderful spectacle.
In Yarmouth, the Common at the top of the High Street is a good place to see the sailing that takes place East of the Harbour.
Norton Beach; which can be reached via the Harbour Taxi, or by walking across the Yar Bridge towards Freshwater is a lovely spot to see the racing West of the Harbour entrance.
Yarmouth Pier is a great vantage point too – just don’t forget to drop your payment into the collection box!
Our map shows many of these locations, or ask the volunteers in the Square for directions
